The Gourmet Project

As a regular visitor to this blog (and I know there are many out there ;-) you will have noticed that I have joined the Food Blog Roll. This roll is a collection of food blogs across the planet. And while browsing through some of the blogs I came across 'The Gourmet Project'. Run by a girl called Teena, it is completely dedicated to one cookbook called 'The Gourmet Cookbook' published by Ruth Reichl (editor of the Gourmet magazine). Teena has the ambition to cook every single recipe in this cookbook. Fairplay to her. I think the eggless Aioli was not a big success but I will have a browse through the blog again to see how the other recipes were doing. At the moment she is on page 889 (not sure if she is going start to finish). Check it out

Elke,

here is something similar, but in this case about the "French Laundry Cookbook" from Thomas Keller.

Thanks Martin, will have a look. With all these dedicated people, I might have to start a project like this myself. Might start with Denis Cotter. He is my food hero, located in Cork with the best vegetarian restaurant you can imagine. And I have already cooked some of his creations...

You´re vegetarian, Elke?!

Yes, I am a vegetarian. And I am so happy that vegetarian food isn't as boring as it was 20 years ago. If you are ever in Cork, book a table at Cafe Paradiso. Trust me, you will love it. http://www.cafeparadiso.ie/

(by the way, I never ate meat. Parents tried everything. Just didn't like it. But I am pretty good in cooking it ;-)

Spargal Spargal where arth thou Spargal! Excuse the mis-spelling if I have (probably) misspelled. I was often perplexed with Germans fascination with white asparagus.

I don't know of anywhere that you can buy it over here, do they even produce it in Ireland. There is some lovely wild asparagus for sale in Dublin at the moment though.

Nice and sunny up here today too Elke!

Guys..this hurts...Dublin has always nicer weather than us and they win mostly the jackpot in lotto....there is no fairness in the world.

Cafe Paradiso is selling lovely green aspagarus at the moment. I also saw some nice white and green ones at the farmer's market in Cork and at the English Market. Have to admit that I love the green variety more....with a lovely cider cream......hmmmmmmmmmm

Cork is even better en natura (at least when the suns shines - and yes, Will, we do have sunny days here too). I have eaten in Cafe Paradiso a lot over the years and never went home disappointed. Well worth a visit. The hotel ain't cheap tho but if you can afford it, it is just a short stroll away from the city centre
