I think I have mentioned it already a couple of times......I love Cafe Paradiso. Denis Cotter is to veggies what Picasso is to art lovers.....anyhow, we decided to pay Cafe Paradiso a visit last night (we being 6 very lovely people). I was the first arriving, opened the door and stopped dead in my tracks....for a split second I thought I entered the wrong restaurant. Gone are the creative walls with the little bibs and bobs (I always discovered new patterns every time I went there). Instead you are looking at ?black? walls....could also be a very dark blue. The floor is in black and white checker style, the tables have silver tops (I thought they were cracked but they actually had a yin & yang pattern). The chairs are comfy.....a complete different feel. Fair enough, the restaurant was in deep need of an overhaul as it has never been really changed since they opened.
Do I like it?..... I am not sure. It is different, that's for sure. It was very quirky before but now it is very stylish. It is not finished yet, I was told that there will be lighting added and that will change the style again. I will have to go back in a couple of weeks to make up my mind. I didn't have my camera with me last night. Next time I will make sure to take some pics. The new style will bring cafe Paradiso into the upmarket category (he always was food wise).
Saying all that (I am a boring old fart when it comes to changes), the food was again outstanding and the staff quirky as ever :-) Ger made my day.
The design was done by Interior Living who are specialised in commercial design and their taste is above suspicion (just go to their shop in McCurtain Street and have a browse around. I bet you spend hours in there).
